The Free Spirit Worship Center offers a support group for members of the LGBT community who are experiencing loss. The group meets the first and third Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 820 Monroe Ave. NW, Suite 120 (Mason Street side), in Grand Rapids.

We all deal with grief at some point in our life. We grieve after events such as a break-up or the death of a loved one, in the midst of difficult transitions, in the face of shattered hopes and dreams. Most people have heard of the seven stages of grief, but few in our society recognize how difficult it is to go through the process when you can’t share your grief openly. We in the LGBT community are often burdened with disenfranchised grief. Too often our grief is unrecognized, unacknowledged, or even disdained by others in society. If you are dealing with disenfranchised grief, you need, above all else, support.
